Winterize Your Skin with an Apple a Day

Cooler temps (and snow) may signify wintertime in most parts of the country, but the skin needs just as much care now as it does in the summertime.  The sun still makes an appearance at this time of year, and the air is typically more drying.  Surprisingly (or not), apples can prepare your complexion for a smooth transition into the warmer spring months, as well as set you up for glowing skin year-round.

  •  Use apple juice mixed with oatmeal to exfoliate.

Preventive Maintenance for the Skin

The skin we face in the mirror every morning is the only skin we’ll ever have.  It may take a little extra time and money now, but keeping it looking great depends on how we care for it daily.  Adopt these preventive maintenance tips to take charge of your skin:

Keep Calm, Cool and Collected

It’s that time of year when stress may easily pay a visit and settle in.  Our schedules become overtaxed with holiday planning and parties, financial concerns, end-of-year preparations, travel, illness and the list goes on.  Learning how to keep calm and carry on during the holidays — or at any time --- helps to counteract the negative effects to our overall health and mental wellbeing.  Try one or more of these tips to achieve a peaceful mind.

The Magic of Massage

When I was on vacation in October, I splurged on my first massage in over 20 years.  Fifty minutes later (and feeling like I had just performed 90 minutes of Bikram Yoga without the blood, sweat and tears), I wondered why I had waited so long.  Especially when I discovered the many health benefits of the various types of massage — from light rubbing to deep pressure techniques.  Although additional research is required to prove the positive outcome of massage, various studies have concluded that massage is not only relaxing, but it also:

Blondes (Brunettes, Red Heads) Have More Fun

A week ago my daughter decided to DIY from dark brown locks to blonde.  After two rounds of chemicals, I’d say she’s probably a strawberry blonde.  But while the color isn’t horrible, it is not a good match for her skin tone.  So how do you know what hue is right for you?

Slimming Solutions for the Holidays

We've officially entered that time of year when we’re inundated with family gatherings, parties with friends or work functions — you name it, there’s typically food involved.  The struggle is how to maintain our fitness commitments and stay slim throughout the holidays and the New Year.  Thankfully, adopting one or more of these simple solutions may be the trick to sabotage-proof your good intentions.

Dodging Dehydration in the Cooler Months

With fall (and winter) temperatures settling in, and our outdoor exercise not working up quite a sweat, it’s easy to slack off the H2O.  However, ensuring our bodies get enough water is equally as important in the cooler seasons as it is in the summertime.  Not only does it play havoc with our skin and lips, dehydration can make us more susceptible to colds and flu, and may lead to serious side effects.  So here are some tips to keep well hydrated as the mercury continues to drop:

Product Review Worth Repeating: Air Repair Rocks!

Over a year ago, I touted the attributes of this amazing product and I’m doing it again.  Last month I flew to Vegas for my first time and, despite the short distance (only an hour flight from Phoenix), my skin almost immediately exhibited the typical tell-tale signs of flight fatigue and environmental stressors.  But, thankfully I remembered to tuck my Air Repair carry-on skincare travel kit in my bag.

The (Health) Benefits of Positive Thinking

I’ve heard the saying more than once: “what you focus on expands.”  If that’s the case, then positive thinking should beget favorable results.  And not only does an optimistic view of life afford the ability to approach and overcome obstacles more productively, but thinking positively also affects our health and wellbeing.

A few of these health benefits include:

The Powerful Panacea of Yogurt

I’ve always enjoyed frozen yogurt in its myriad of flavors and topped with granola or almonds.  Or added to creamy smoothies blended with my favorite fruits.  Plain yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream or mayonnaise — or milk or buttermilk in recipes.  And this dairy product contains active live cultures (called probiotics), which help maintain a healthy digestive track.  Yogurt can also be used in some non-traditional healing ways, as well.
