Coffee House Calorie Breakdown

We’ve all had those days where we’re just too tired to function and the only cure comes in the form of a quick trip to the local coffee shop. Coffee sounds good, a latte sounds better, but the grande caramel mocha with whipped cream and sprinkles sounds the best! The bigger the drink, the more caffeine to keep us awake, right? Well, even though that cavity of a coffee drink well give you an extra burst of energy for about twenty minutes, the sugar crash (or oftentimes sugar coma) you’ll experience afterwards will leave you in worse shape than you were before.

Dining Out? Make Healthy Choices

Eating healthy is easy… if you have willpower, motivation and a meticulously planned grocery list. But what about all those unplanned lunch meetings, dinner dates and company parties? Well, as a retired bartender and server, I am here to tell you there are ways to eat healthy when you're at a restaurant!

An Apple a Day

It's safe to say that between Halloween and Thanksgiving I've gained a pound or two... and probably a cavity or two as well! So, since we get a short break until the next food-laden holiday, I'm preparing healthier, yet equally decadent recipes for the upcoming weeks in an effort to get my body and taste palette back into my usual routine.

Have a Healthier Holiday

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I’m starting to gather my recipes for the 30 person dinner I am hosting with my cousin. Since I’ll be busy slaving away in the kitchen the entire day, I don’t want to add even more stress by having to worry about making healthy choices while being surrounded by so much mouthwatering food. So, after doing some research, here are some healthier choices you can make without having to sacrifice all the scrumptious flavors at your own Thanksgiving dinner…

Lighten Up Your Favorite Recipes

As an avid baker, I've used pretty much every fattening, sugary, high calorie ingredient out there. Since I bake and cook on a regular basis for my blog, I go through my fair share of sugar, butter, corn starch, flour, olive oil and anything else you can think of. It's a bit disheartening knowing that I can easily go through three pounds of butter in a matter of hours. So, after being forced to bring my scale (and my dignity) out of hiding, I decided to make some changes to my baking and cooking habits.

There's More to Health Than Staying Fit

I live in a city where there’s a coffee shop on every block, there is very limited parking, and a mile and a half walk to work is pretty standard for most people. It used to be that I lived close enough to my office that I could walk that mile and a half every day with absolutely no problem. 100 degree heat waves, torrential downpours and Midwestern blizzards were no match for me.

Little Changes, Big Results

More often than not, time is not on our side. We wake up late, rush to meetings, eat on the go; our schedules simply do not allow a balanced diet. With our never ending schedules come excuses as to why we don’t have the time or flexibility to change for the better. Your skin, your health and your waistline all suffer because of those excuses.  Suffice it to say, a healthier diet can be achieved without costing you time, money or your routine.
